Our History

UID was founded in 2004 in Cologne, Germany, under the name “Union of European Turkish Democrats” (UETD) by Turkish-origin European citizens coming together to advocate for their political, social, and cultural rights. The organization’s goal was to raise awareness of the challenges faced by Turks and other immigrant communities in Europe, promote social integration, and defend their rights.

In 2018, in response to growing global demand, the organization changed its name to the Union of International Democrats (UID) and expanded its scope. From this point on, UID began undertaking more comprehensive efforts to address the social, cultural, and political issues faced by Turkish-origin communities worldwide, not just in Europe.

Today, UID operates actively in 37 countries and continues its work with significant goals such as promoting multiculturalism, combating discrimination, and empowering women and youth in social life.

our vision

UID aims to enable individuals from different nations, cultures, and religions to participate in all areas of social life with equal rights, encouraging them to become individuals who shape society. Our work focuses on eliminating prejudices, ensuring social harmony, and building a strong future through collaboration.
